A/W Trend Report 2011/'12

I've been looking at trends this Autumn/Winter and have narrowed my research down to 6 key trends.

Primary colour block
Colour-blocking was all over the catwalk this season with designers like Thakoon, D&G, Blumarine and Betty Jackson leading the way using primary colours to make their mark.

Heritage
Once again we see the revival of heritage fabrics and dressing. Tweeds, wools and tartans were the key fabrics used by the likes of Yves Saint Laurent, Daks, Burberry and Celine in the catwalk shows. Team with traditional brogues, cameo brooch and a vintage satchel for a more authentic look.

Coloured Fur
Fur is back again and with a bang! Gucci lead the way using vivid coloured fur stoles and coats while Sonia Rykiel used burst of bright fur infused with her knitwear pieces. For a more toned down approach, the likes of Ann Demeulemeester and Joanne Hynnes showed flashes of colour mixed with more neutral coloured furs of blacks and browns.

1970's
70's revival was everywhere this season with Marc by Marc Jacobs leading the way. High-waisted trousers, loose-fitting blouses and chunky knitwear create the ultimate '70's vibe with oversized sunnies and platform heels topping off the look. Tommy Hilfiger combined luxurious silks with furs for a glamourous approach while Celine kept it more laid back with flared denim jeans teamed with amustard blouse.

Boy meets Girl
Androgeny meets a more laid back style of dressing. Tapered trousers were teamed with baggy knitwear and sheer blouses on the catwalk of Paul Smith with Stella McCartney following suit by teaming fine knit jumpers with fitted tailored trousers and traditional blouses. Team with girly heels and fine jewellery for a more feminine touch.

Leather
Once again, leather is back and is one trend garaunteed to repeat. Traditional black lead the way on the catwalks of Loewe, ChloĆ© and Ann Demeulemeester while Matthew Williamson injected some colour with red leather skinny trousers teamed with chunky knit cardi. Take note from Mr. Williamson and team leather pieces with knits and furs for a variation in weights and textures.

Savage Beauty

Whilst in NYC, I took a lovely little trip to the Met museum to see the wonderful exhibition that was Savage Beauty, a careful selection of Alexander McQueen's most influencial collections :)
After 5 hours of queing (it was the final 2 days of the exhibit), I finally entered the breathtking world of McQueen.
Photography was strictly prohibited so I took notes and scoured the web for my favourite pieces :) Enjoy!
